Root canal

Dentista helps you enjoy your teeth for a lifetime. Hopefully with your own teeth and molars. Do you have an inflammation in a tooth or molar nerve? Then a root canal treatment is needed to preserve that tooth or molar.

Every tooth or molar has a nerve. That nerve resides in a tiny canal that runs through the root. If such a nerve is inflamed, you need a root canal. Also called endodontic treatment or nerve treatment. Such an inflamed nerve does not heal on its own.

An inflammation of your dental nerve can be caused by a variety of reasons. It is not always immediately accompanied by severe complaints, but it is not wise to continue with it.

Without treatment, the inflammation continues and becomes increasingly painful. The tooth or molar can then also discolour. If you wait too long, the tooth cannot even be saved and pulling is the only option.

That is why we recommend that you make an appointment quickly when you have an aching molar, even if you are in doubt. We then determine by means of tests – and perhaps an additional X-ray – what is going on. This may indicate that you need a root canal treatment.

Fortunately, there is no reason to be nervous about root canal treatment. Because of the anaesthetic it is almost always painless. You may have some pain after the treatment. You can treat this with paracetamol or ibuprofen. The post-treatment pain normally only lasts two days. Contact us if it lasts longer.
